Sugar Coma Festival | A Sweet Scene

by Melissa on June 7, 2011

The Broke Socialite Does… did it again. Sugar Coma Festival Atlanta took place this past weekend at Bradford Gallery in the Miami Circle district of Buckhead. Shameeka Ayers (aka The Broke Socialite) will be brought together dozens of confectioners, pastry chefs and bakers under one roof for a sweet tooth’s dream come true.

What was there? Cupcakes, cookies, cotton candy, ice cream, pastries… the list goes on and on… is your mouth watering yet? I know mine is just thinking about all the goodies that I got to sample in between snapping photos of the vendors and their sweet confections.

It wouldn’t be a food festival in Atlanta without High Road Craft dishing out some of their incredible ice creams and sorbets.

For me, Sweet Justice takes home the prize for the best props & setup at her table.

I can not get over this bag of popcorn cake by Jazzy Treats, and those cupcakes. Yeah, gorgeous.

These cake pops by Sweets for my Sweet were beautiful! And I just loved the color of the icing on those cupcakes in the back – know why? Yes, it’s my favorite (and signature) .

I was so, so happy to finally meet Candice Reynolds, of Red Queen Tarts, in person! She’s such a lovely person, and if you haven’t gotten a chance to sample her organic, artisan tarts – you must! Here she is with Shameeka, the Broke Socialite, and the brains behind this fabulous event.

Now, after all of these sweets, your biggest question is probably:

“Melissa, what was your favorite thing that you ate at the Sugar Coma Festival?”

Even though I will say, that every single thing I tasted was delicious. There was one sweet that made my eyes roll into the back of my head because it was so good.

West Egg Cafe‘s Red Velvet Whoopie Pie.

There are no words to describe it other than: heavenly.

That’s it. Now head on over to their storefront in the White Provision Residence building on Howell Mill Road, pay Executive Chef Patric Bell a visit and taste a Red Velvet Whoopie Pie for yourself.  Maybe you’ll run into me there. I know I’ll be making a visit to West Egg real soon.

Full disclosure: Thank you to The Broke Socialite Media for inviting me to this event as official event photographer.
